The NYC Department of Buildings has specific requirements for the training and certification of all workers within the construction field. Local Law 196 sets forth new safety training requirements for all employees at any large construction project. This new law includes the required completion of safety certification programs in New York, with a specific focus on OSHA certifications. The exact training varies from worker to worker, with many having a minimum requirement of the OSHA 10 class. Other workers, such as Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, and Construction Superintendents, must receive a minimum of 60 hours of OSHA training.
At The Safety Group Ltd., we operate these and many other training courses. Our comprehensive OSHA certification training courses meet the new NYC DOB OSHA requirements. For further construction certification, we offer Chapter 33 compliant courses including Concrete Safety Manager, Rigging Supervisor, and Scaffold courses. We also offer fire safety, environment, and emergency preparedness classes. Allow our construction safety and risk management company to provide the right training and certification for your needs.
Which Courses Am I Required to Take?
The vast majority of workers will need to meet Local Law 196’s 10-60 hour OSHA safety certification programs in New York. Depending on the license type, there are additional course requirements for renewal or approval of licenses.
Concrete Safety Managers must complete OSHA courses, along with Chapter 33 compliant courses, such as our 30-hour Concrete Safety Manager course, or our 8-hour Concrete Safety Manager Refresher.
Master Riggers must complete all OSHA requirements, along with courses addressing the specifics of the job. This includes 8-hour recertification courses addressing the maintenance, use, inspection, installation, and hazards associated with the field. This includes our 4-40-hour Cranes & Derrick Courses.
Site Safety Managers must complete all OSHA requirements. They must also complete an 8-hour Site Safety Manager refresher course.
All workers, regardless of site size, must meet specific requirements set forth by the NYC DOB. At The Safety Group Ltd., we offer the required courses, refreshers, and certifications for all levels of construction employment.
